Clinical review Neurocardiogenic syncope

چکیده
Syncope is a common problem that many clinicians may encounter in various outpatient settings. Neurally mediated syncopal syndrome includes carotid sinus syndrome, situational syncope, and neurocardiogenic syncope (also known as vasovagal syncope), which is the most common cause of syncope in both children and adults, accounting for 50-66% of unexplained syncope. 2 The distinction between neurocardiogenic syncope and other causes of fainting is essential, as the prognosis and treatment are different.

Clinical efficacy of beta1 selective adrenergic blockers in the treatment of neurocardiogenic syncope – a meta-analysis
BACKGROUND Beta1 (B(1)) selective blockers have been widely used for the treatment of neurocardiogenic syncope though clinical trials have shown conflicting degrees of efficacy. OBJECTIVE To study the clinical efficacy of B(1) selective blockers compared to placebo in the treatment of neurocardiogenic syncope. METHODS Four placebo controlled randomized studies were identified after search o...
متن کاملEtiology of syncope in hospitalized patients
Background: Syncope is a common clinical problem which can be remarkably debilitating and associated with high health care costs. Syncope is a clinical syndrome with many potential causes. The aim of the study was to determine the etiologies of patients with syncope in the emergency department (ED) of a referral and general university hospital. Methods: One hundred sixty-five consecutive ...
متن کاملRight insular atrophy in neurocardiogenic syncope: a volumetric MRI study.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Alterations in the central autonomic network are hypothesized to play a role in the pathophysiologic mechanism underlying neurocardiogenic syncope; however, few data are available regarding the structural changes of the brain in this condition. We used voxel-based morphometry and regional volumetry to identify possible neuroanatomic correlates. MATERIALS AND METHODS We ...
متن کاملComparison of Recurrence Rate Based on the Frequency of Preceding Symptoms in Patients With Neurocardiogenic Syncope or Presyncope
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES In patients with neurocardiogenic syncope or presyncope, symptoms developed unpredictably and intermittently. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was any significant difference in the recurrence rate of symptoms during the follow-up period between patients with many episodes of symptoms and those with fewer episodes of symptoms before diagnosis, as...
متن کاملNeurocardiogenic syncope and associated conditions: insight into autonomic nervous system dysfunction.
Neurocardiogenic syncope is known to be associated with autonomic nervous system dysfunction, although the mechanism has not been entirely elucidated. In this study, we sought to highlight the pathogenic role of the autonomic nervous system in neurocardiogenic syncope and to review the associated co-morbidities known to have a dysautonomic basis. Herein we discuss migraine, orthostatic hypotens...
